The Azure Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining automation capabilities across Azure cloud infrastructure in a global enterprise environment. This role focuses on improving operational efficiency, platform reliability, and security posture through scripting and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). The engineer will work closely with Platform, DevOps, and Engineering teams to standardize provisioning, streamline deployments, and support CI/CD and operational processes for Azure services.

Key Responsibilities
Automation & Cloud Operations
- Design, develop, and maintain automation scripts to support Azure infrastructure and platform operations.
- Automate provisioning, configuration, and deployment of Azure resources to reduce manual effort and errors.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities through automation, standardization, and reusable patterns.
- Troubleshoot automation, deployment, and production issues, ensuring timely resolution and platform stability.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Implement and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Bicep and ARM templates.
- Maintain template quality, modularity, and reusability to support consistent deployments across environments.
- Support versioning and changing control practices for IaC assets to ensure deployment hygiene.
CI/CD & DevOps Enablement
- Support and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (pipelines, repositories, boards).
- Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to improve deployment workflows, reduce lead time, and enhance reliability.
- Contribute to release readiness and operational validation as part of production deployment practices.
Azure SQL Support & Monitoring
- Assist in managing and monitoring Azure SQL resources, supporting database operational tasks where required.
- Support platform teams in diagnosing issues related to performance, availability, or configuration.
Security & Compliance Practices
- Ensure adherence to cloud security best practices, including identity, access, and configuration management.
- Embed security considerations into automation and IaC (secure defaults, policy-aligned configuration patterns).
Required Skills & Experience
Experience Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience working in Azure cloud environments.
Technical Competencies
- Strong scripting skills in Python and PowerShell for automation and operational tooling.
- Proven experience implementing Bicep and ARM templates for Infrastructure as Code.
- Familiarity with Azure core services and platform architecture concepts (resource organization, networking basics, identity).
- Working knowledge of Azure SQL and common database operations.
- Experience with Azure DevOps (pipelines, repos, boards) and CI/CD execution practices.
- Solid understanding of cloud security best practices (least privilege, secure configuration, access governance).
